We are undergoing significant
changes and alterations as we are assimilated into the Washington Seattle
Mission. On Friday, I had the opportunity to sit in a council composed of many
respected Elders and Sisters of the mission for our Missionary Leadership
Council. We worked for over 8 hours to construct and integrate new practices
and visions for the mission ranging from details of our schedules, weekly
accounting and the collection of our weekly numbers, how we will work with members,
a new mission scriptural recitation and mission song, and even details about
communication with family and friends. President Choi is teaching us how to sit
in council. He said that if thing went well, he'd tell President Packer all
about it; how we practiced the instructions previously received from him about
counseling with the Quorum of the Twelve. This is a process of individuals with
their perceptions and understandings coming together to be united by
revelation, until ALL are in perfect agreement. There must be agreement and
equal voice, and such it was with us. I learned SO much about working as a
council.
President Choi is one of the greatest teachers I've ever met. I had a particularly interesting experience with him during this council meeting. Each zone leader companionship was to give an accounting of the labors within their zone including details about baptisms, member work, zone culture and practices, companionship issues, ward and stake correlations, how they are instructing the zone members, and more. After presenting the fairly detailed information we had prepared, we expected questions. Counselor's of the mission presidency asked for some clarifying information and such. I turned to President Choi and expected more of the same, but he had something else in mind. "What else do you think I would ask you? Look into my eyes. I'm expecting you to use discernment of the Spirit. Remember, you are greater thanI. Read my
mind."

Now, I had watched several
others go through this same thing, but now he faced us. My mind was frenzied
for a moment, but I shut it down. I looked straight at him, into his eyes, for
every bit of 20 seconds, in silence, discerning. He had it, I could see it; his
thought and question sat right there, just behind his eyes. I saw it, and
answered, "We will be focusing on the unity and strength of the
companionships within our zone, and give further instruction to the district
leaders to monitor and work with the Elders for that purpose..."
"Good! Good, very well, yes that was it." he answered. I continued
and explained how that was an express focus of our companionship, and that we
would be more enabled to teach because of our personal testimonies regarding
the manner. It was an incredible experience, and I learned so much about
the powers of the spirit!! I really enjoy his instruction and guidance, and I
sustain him as our president.
